2012 Dixie Fellowship

Before I get into the explanation of this great event, I would like to apologize for how later this is, I didn’t receive the forms until late tonight, and have been rushing to get them to all of you as soon as possible. I apologize for its tardiness.

We’re quickly nearing the date for our Section SR-5 Fellowship, better known as Dixie. One of the most important factors for our Lodge’s performance at the event is spirit. Spirit is how we show pride in our lodge, and perhaps the best way to show this spirit is with a strong theme. In the past, different lodges have used themes including ninjas, cavemen, Ironman, cornucopia of colors, baseball, carnival, military services, and Hollywood, to name a few. I’m certain that a few people will remember the situation a few years ago when our Unali’yi and Santee Lodges both had the same theme of Christmas at Dixie. This won’t happen again.

Our spirit theme this year is from Maui Inali Chapter, it is 8 bit buck. A lot of the members of the lodge might be a bit confused by this but, as we could see at Fall Fellowship the chapter members were full of enthusiasm as they personified their favorite old school video games. Eight bit video games are the orginal arcade games that so many of us grew up with such as Pac Man, Super Mario Bro, Tetris and so on. This topic is very wide and there are literally dozens of ways we could go with this theme so we are simplifying it by assigning a game to each chapter. Kiawah is handling Pac Man, Chicora is taking Mario, and the remaining chapters are joining up with Maui Inali for Tetris. If anyone wants to help out with your respective parts contact your chapter chief. Please learn our lodge chants and songs from some of the more experienced members, and enjoy your time at Dixie in beautiful Camp John J. Barnhart.

If you have never been to a Dixie Fellowship you might be asking yourself what exactly is this event. Well the Dixie Fellowship is the area conclave for Section 5 of the Southern Region of the Boy Scouts of America comprised of 11 Lodges from Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina. This annual event is hosted by one of the lodges within the Section. This weekend is unlike any other Lodge activity in that there will be over 1000 Arrowmen participating and competing in a variety of activities. These activities range from training sessions and Ceremonies competitions in the morning to sports and American Indian activities in the afternoon and let’s not forget patch trading, food and fellowship.

To learn more about the Dixie Fellowship please contact our Dixie committee through the Lodge’s website (http://www.site236.com).  We look forward to you joining the Lodge’s Dixie delegation for yet another successful Dixie Fellowship. i understand that a lot of people don’t read the entire email, so I made sure to to make this stand so you couldn’t miss this important information. The attached form is the letter above, and the attached excel file has two parts to it. On the first page you will find the individual registration form, and on the other you will find the preorder form for memorabilia. This part is important ****THE INDIVIDUAL REGISTRATION FORM GOES TO COASTAL CAROLINA SCOUT OFFICE, WHILE THE PREORDER FORM GOES TO THE CENTRAL NORTH CAROLINA COUNCIL SCOUT OFFICE****  The preorder form is due to the CNC scout office by JAN. 27th, and the Registration form is due to the CCC Scout office by that same date.

2011 Fall Fellowship

Mini-Dixie and Much More!!

On December 9-11th Unali’Yi Lodge 236 will be holding its Fall Fellowship. This is an event of epic proportions, with TWO huge feasts, Vigil Banquet, Sea food feast, Oyster roast, Chapter Quest events, Spirit Competitions, the Annual Lodge Patch Auction, Chapter of the year competiton, a charitable toy drive, Vigil Induction, Founder’s Award, training for youth and adults, Brotherhood ceremonies, AND some fellowship activities too.

In past years our lodge has held chapter competitions during the Fall Fellowship. In the planning for last year, we decided why not take this a step further: beyond chapter competitions, each chapter will also have a theme for the weekend. I have discussed this with all of the chapter chiefs, and as of now many chapters are already collecting resources and preparing to compete against in our Fall Fellowship Mini Dixie. There will be two prizes for the spirit competition: not only will the winning chapter’s theme be used as the Lodge theme for this coming Dixie, but the winning chapter’s name will also appear on our Dixie patch. And—of course—the winner will have bragging rights for the next year. So get your chapter together and get ready for competition in December!

Also at the beginning of the weekend of Fall Fellowship, Unali’yi Lodge is continuing its annual Sea food feast and oyster roast. On Friday night our brothers will be partaking in these festivities from 5:00 pm concluding around 8:00 pm. The Oyster roast and Sea food feasts are great ways to spend time in fellowship with the brothers of the lodge so I suggest you bring your oyster knife and gloves to have some fun.  Guests are welcome for Fridays nights activities for $10 each.

Continuing on the theme of amazing food, we move onto the Vigil Banquet on Saturday evening. Year after year the Vigil Honor Members of our lodge return to serve the members of the lodge a delicious dinner in honor of the new Vigil honor members. All in all Fall Fellowship will be full of fun, food, and brotherhood so be sure to come out to Camp Ho Non Wah for the Weekend.

Yours in brotherhood,

Alec “Goodies” Surrett
