The 2018 Most Famous Alumnus in Scouting Announcement
By popular vote - James Barton, lodge advisor of Unali'yi Lodge
#236 of Coastal Carolina Council, and educator at Fort Dorchester High School was declared the nation’s 2018 Most Famous Alumnus in Scouting.
Other notable nominations this year included: Rex Tillerson (last year’s recipient); Neil Armstrong; and, John F Kennedy.
Mr Barton holds a very special place in the hearts of the arrowman and community members of his local area. Several of the lodge members sought out and achieved encouraging their friends and family to vote and vote often for Mr Barton.
The most notable nominations maintained that James has achieved an unprecedented milestone by guiding his Order of the Arrow lodge to the nation’s first five-time consecutive earning of the E. Urner Goodman camping award (only two lodges per region are recognized annual with this award). Also, noted was Mr Barton’s tireless efforts of promoting Camp Ho Non Wah where he has served as camp director for well over a decade and a half. James is a recipient of the NESA Outstanding Eagle Scout Award, OA Founders Award, Silver Beaver and countless other recognitions.
